HOSPITAL AND SERVICES
MGH departments include pediatrics, cardiology (including a congestive heart failure clinic, a cardiovascular lab, and newly expanded state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab that also features an electrophysiology lab), critical care (a state-of-the-art 19-bed department with all private rooms) and Family Birthing Center. Other hospital specialty areas are inpatient and outpatient surgery and recovery, emergency and Fast Track non-emergency services, and ambulance department.
Nursing care on the medical and surgical units at MGH is both primary and team nursing, allowing a closer patient/nurse relationship to develop. The care delivered at MGH is with the needs and desires of the patients in mind. MGH does everything it can to accommodate its patients, based on availability and the census of the hospital. Because of this, most rooms at MGH are private.
The hospital’s ancillary service departments include laboratory, a community volunteer blood bank, radiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, respiratory care, sleep lab, noninvasive vascular lab, lithotripsy and Lifeline (a personal emergency response system).
The MGH radiology department has two state-of-the-art facilities that feature the latest in technology,
one located at the hospital and MGH Progressive Medical Imaging is located at 831 N. Theatre drive
on the west-side of Marion. The MGH radiology department features full-field digital mammography and
the R2 ImageChecker™. MGH Progressive Medical imaging offers patients the highly-developed PET/CT
scan which provides faster scan times and high-quality images.
MGH also has PACS (picture archiving communication system) in its radiology department. PACS is an innovative computer technology that provides radiologists with new diagnostic tools. PACS eliminates the need for film, and all images are available via a hard drive on a computer. The images can be adjusted and fine-tuned by the technologists and doctors to produce a better picture, and they give the radiologists better diagnostic capabilities.

WHAT’S NEW
In 2006, MGH’s sleep lab doubled in size when it opened two more sleep suites providing the community four sleep suites helping patients with sleep disorders and a variety of diagnostic tests. Performing over 700 sleep studies a year prior to the expansion, MGH anticipates continued expansion in patients receiving care for their sleep disorders.
MGH completed construction of the new Helistop which will allow patients who are being transported to ancillary hospitals to receive care more quickly, gaining approximately 20 minutes in time. The Helistop is located at the southeast corner of Wabash Avenue and Cherry Street and will have four ambulance bays and a bridge to MGH’s third floor which precludes the need for emergency personnel to make an ambulance run to the previous pick-up area.
