Indiana Wesleyan University is a Christ-centered, comprehensive university, committed to liberal arts
and professional education. The University was established in 1920 as Marion College and changed its
name to Indiana Wesleyan University in 1988. The institution is affiliated with The Wesleyan Church,
which has its international headquarters in Indianapolis.
With a current enrollment exceeding 12,600, IWU is the largest institution in the Council for Christian
Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and the largest private university in the state of Indiana. IWU is
organized in three colleges:
• College of Arts and Sciences:
Enrollment of 2,830 with nearly 750 first-time freshmen and a residential population of 2,300.
More than 70 majors are offered on the University’s
main campus in Marion, Indiana. Surveys of Campus Life
magazine readers have consistently ranked IWU as one of the
top schools in the country for spiritual atmosphere.
• College of Graduate Studies:
Enrollment of 511 with master’s programs in counseling, ministry and nursing, as well as a
doctoral program in Organizational Leadership.
• College of Adult and
Professional Studies: Enrollment of 9,291 with adult students enrolled at regional sites throughout Indiana,
Ohio and Kentucky, as well as online. IWU adult graduation
rates are among the highest in the nation, nearly double the
national average. Several thousand students are pursuing graduate
coursework through this College, as well.
The University offers educational programs in three student-focused
formats: On the traditional residential campus in Marion;
at regional sites; and through IWUOnline, the University’s
innovative internet-based delivery system which currently
serves more than 2,000 degree-seeking students.
The University’s visually striking 300-acre main campus
in Marion is located near Interstate 69, about an hour from
both Fort Wayne and Indianapolis. Classes are taught at other
Indiana education centers in Columbus, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis
(north and south), Kokomo, Merrillville and Shelbyville. The
University also has three education centers in Ohio (Cincinnati,
Cleveland and Dayton) and two in Kentucky (Lexington and Louisville).
During the past two decades, $200 million in new construction
and renovation have transformed IWU into a debt-free, ultra-modern,
student-focused, high-tech University. Since 1987, 46 construction
projects have been completed, including 20 residence halls,
16 academic/administrative buildings and 10 adult and professional
studies structures.
