Upland, IN—Taylor University’s Center for Research and Innovation (CR&I) along with Grant County’s Innovative Network, have announced the list of Taylor University Business Plan Competition semi-finalists that will proceed to the full business plan phase. A panel of six independent judges selected the semi-finalists from a total entry pool of 22 based on their Business Concept Overview. Each semi-finalist must submit a full Business Plan for another round of judging no later than April 12 2007. Five finalists will be selected to present their business plan to a panel of 12 judges the afternoon of May 10.
The competition is targeting businesses or potential businesses operating within the Taylor University campus area of influence encompassing Grant, Blackford, Delaware and surrounding counties. Entries were received from Anderson University, Ball State University, Indiana Wesleyan University, Taylor University, and the community at large. The long-term objective is to spur entrepreneurial growth that will generate job opportunities for area residents. Each entry commits to starting or establishing a significant portion of their business in Indiana.

Taylor University’s Center for Research and Innovation (www.taylor.edu/cri) was established in 2004 through a grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. to amplify the talents and passions of students and faculty through innovative research, entrepreneurship, and partnerships resulting in the invigoration of the local community and impacting the world.
The Innovative Network is an extension of the Grant Count Economic Growth Council. Its mission is to stimulate and support an entrepreneurial environment and to develop a high tech infrastructure support system conducive to advanced manufacturing and other high tech ventures in Grant County. Since its inception the Innovative Network has initiated new internship programs, technology studies, and entrepreneurship training opportunities.
