Marion, Indiana is proud to be named the nation’s ninth top ranking Midwest
micro in Top Micros ranking this year by Site Selection magazine. Formally
known as “Top Small Towns,” the Micropoliton Award honors communities with a
population of less than 50,000 for their ability secure new and expanded
corporate facility projects. This is the first time that any Indiana community has
made the top ten of this prestigious list. “This unbelievable turnaround is
attributed to a tremendous team effort from our federal, state, and local leaders,
as well as a community that was not willing to give up,” explained Mayor Wayne
Seybold. “As a result, many more have ‘Made it Marion’/Grant County.”
“Grant County’s recent successes can be attributed to a strong partnership
between local leadership and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation,
as well as the high-quality workforce in the area and throughout the state,” said
Michael S. Maurer, Secretary of Commerce and IEDC president. Jeff
Southworth, Grant County Economic Growth Council Board President, also
noted, “I am pleased to see the results of what leadership and vision accomplish.
This achievement has its roots in the vision of collaboration that saw the Growth
Council launch the Grant County Local Elected Officials Association back in
1996.”
Site Selection magazine recognized ten major projects happening in Marion.
This amounts to nearly $231 million of investment for the county a nd includes the
new $70 million distribution center for Dollar General Co., set for their grand
opening this October. “We looked at approximately two dozen locations before
selecting Marion, Indiana as the site for the ninth Dollar General Distribution
Center,” said A nthony Roden, Dollar General’s Vice President of Distribution.
“Marion and Grant County were enthusiastic collaborators, and their commitment
was impressive, often exceeding our expectations.”
