Mark Sweeney of McCallum Sweeney Consulting, said of the Growth Council,
“From our initial time we visited in October 2004 to the Dollar General
announcement in May 2005, the Marion/ Grant County team exemplified the best
practices of local economic development. This award is well deserved for the
effort and leadership put forth by Mayor Seybold and the Grant County Economic
Growth Council.” Mike Mullis from J. M. Mullis also commented, “The Mullis Firm
was very appreciative to be involved with the Wal-Mart Team in this project's site
selection process; and we are so very proud of all of the involved parties in Gas
City and Grant County; with a particular thanks to Mayor Leach and the staff of
the Growth Council. We will [] be using this project, and Gas City, as one great
model as to how a project should be accomplished.”
Jay Walters, Deputy Managing Director of Ginovus, LLC, continued, "The string
of economic development successes in Grant County can largely be attributed to
the professionalism and efforts of the Grant County Economic Growth Council.
The thoroughness and timeliness of the Growth Council’s response to requests
has always exceeded the expectation of our clients. In addition, the Growth
Council’s follow-up with companies, even after they have announced projects, is
second to none."
Charlie Wallace, 2005 Growth Council Board President, explained, "The recent
success of the Grant County Economic Growth Council represents a commitment
to cooperation throughout Grant County by units of government, elected officials,
private enterprise and community leaders. It has been a long process by a lot of
people and we are just beginning to enjoy those efforts. We look forward to
continued growth in Grant County."
In addition to new investment, the Growth Council was also recognized for
acquiring over 2,000 new jobs and for their leadership with the Innovative
Network, a collaboration between the Growth Council, Indiana Wesleyan
University, Taylor University, Ivy Tech State College, the Affordable Housing
Corporation, and the Chamber of Commerce, in efforts to encourage and assist
entrepreneurship development from within the community.
