Indiana Wesleyan University has received a $481,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to expand nursing education programs in Indiana. Vital support for the grant came from the Grant County Economic Growth Council, which mobilized the local business community to write letters of support to Members of Congress.
Part of the grant was used to upgrade and expand nursing facilities on IWU’s main campus in Marion where more than 400 traditional students are enrolled in nursing programs for the 2006-2007 academic year. A new transition-to-nursing program, for students with non-nursing bachelor’s degrees, will begin July on the Marion campus.
A part of the federal grant also is being used for a first-ever nursing laboratory in IWU’s regional campus in Greenwood. The University offers nursing programs at 15 other regional campuses in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky – but those facilities do not have nursing labs.
